Purdue Pharma family faces new legal threats

More than 40 states and numerous creditors intend to file a barrage of new lawsuits against individual members of the Sackler family, former owners of OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma, over their role in the opioid crisis. According to the New York Times, the Sacklers demanded civil immunity as a condition of a controversial settlement that included payments from the family totaling $6 billion. That settlement is now in doubt after the Supreme Court ruled in June that civil immunity would violate federal bankruptcy laws.
