Higher walking speed can slash Type 2 diabetes risk, according to a new analysis published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine. Researchers studied the walking habits of more than 500,000 people and found that regular walks at an average pace — two to three miles per hour — was associated with a 15 percent lower risk. But faster walkers saw even bigger benefits: Brisk walking at three to four miles per hour was associated with 24 percent lower risk, while risk dropped by 39 percent with a four mile per hour stride.
