Tiny hippo bounces to fame

A fat, rosy-cheeked pygmy hippo born in a Thailand zoo in July is going viral around the world.

Moo Deng ("Bouncy Pig"), as she was named in a public poll, is now famous for her feisty antics — cavorting around her enclosure, imitating her mother's eating, and biting her keepers.

She has become the ambassador of her somewhat rare species. Only about 2,000 are thought to live in the wild where they live secretive, solitary, nocturnal lives.

Pygmy hippos are much smaller than common hippos. While Moo Deng tips the cuteness scale, females of her species only grow to about 350 pounds, compared to a common female hippo that can weigh in at around 3,000 pounds.
