Older adults who combine weight training with the recommended amount of aerobic activity are much less likely to die early, according to a study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine. Researchers reviewed data for more than 100,000 participants in a large cancer screening trial and found that adults who lifted weights once or twice each week and engaged in at least 150 to 300 minutes of moderate exercise or 75 to 150 minutes of vigorous exercise each week reduced their risk of dying early from any cause by 41 to 47 percent.
