If you ran your life like a business, how would it be different?
When you think about it, your life deserves just as much planning, budgeting, and resource management as a business does.
Consider Amazon founder Jeff Bezos' idea of paper cuts. At Amazon, these are the small customer service deficiencies that ding the experience.
You also have them in your life: Things that don't work or aren't reliable. That annoying chore that distracts you from important things. Playing that game on your phone instead of spending time managing your budget. These little nicks in your time and focus add up to bigger, more unsatisfying consequences for your life. Do what you can to solve and eliminate paper cuts.
In the same way, giving your attention to a goal over time can improve your chances of success. Do you want to buy a house? You need singular focus on that goal over time. Saving for a down payment. Paying bills on time and raising your credit score. Avoiding debt. Focus on the goal and do everything you can to achieve it.
You could think of the principle of 'singular focus over time' for every aspect of your life, like with career, educational, or family goals.
Good decision making is crucial for moving ahead in life. Think of decisions as doors. With one-door decisions, it's difficult or impossible to go back once you go through. It can be something as small as not paying rent on time. A small matter, but you can't go back and when you look for another apartment, that the damage to your reputation will haunt you over time. With two-door decisions, you can change your mind with fewer repercussions. If you end up not liking the color of your new shirt, you don't have to wear it again.
