Medicare will sharply cut the amount it spends on expensive "skin substitute" bandages, a dubious and expensive treatment that cost the program more than anesthesia or ambulance rides in 2024. According to the New York Times, the bandages contain dried placenta and are marketed for use on non-healing wounds. The bandages can cost as much as $21,000 per square inch.
