Wheelchair courtesy
A wheelchair can be a lonely place, and not just because users are generally sitting lower than other people are standing. To be polite to wheelchair users:
* Stand in front of the person in the wheelchair, not behind. If you chat behind the wheelchair, the person in it is not part of the conversation.
* If you are with a person in a wheelchair, try to walk alongside it.
* If you have to walk behind a wheelchair that someone else is pushing, tell the person in the chair you are there. Otherwise, they have no sense of who is with them. Catch up and walk alongside as soon as possible.
* When others come up behind a wheelchair, tell the person in the chair who is there. Move to the front of the chair as soon as possible.
* Pull up a chair for conversation.
