Medicare proposes restrictions for Alzheimer’s drug

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has released a draft decision outlining proposed coverage guidelines for Aduhelm, a controversial drug that is supposed to slow cognitive decline in early-stage Alzheimer's patients. According to the Washington Post, Medicare plans to cover the drug, but only for patients participating in clinical studies approved by CMS or supported by the National Institutes of Health. The drug, which is currently priced at $28,000 per year, has been a subject of intense controversy, with critics questioning its effectiveness. A final decision will be issued by April 11.
