Colon cancer rates have risen sharply among young adults in the U.S., and a new study shows that ultraprocessed foods may be to blame. Published in the journal JAMA Oncology, the study analyzed data from 29,100 study participants over a period of 13 years. Participants who consumed 10 servings or more of ultraprocessed food each day were at 45 percent greater risk of developing colorectal polyps, which can lead to cancer.
