Those icky, dangerous, blood-sucking ticks are lazy and they can't jump. But they can fly — sort of.
According to a study in the journal Current Biology, static electricity generated by animals moving around creates electrical charges, the same as when you rub a balloon on your head and your hair stands up straight. This static electricity lifts ticks up toward the charged forces present on animals.
