When bigger isn't better
In an era of the biggest, fastest, best, two parks aim to be the smallest.
In Nagaizumi, Japan, just an hour from Tokyo, the "World's Smallest Park" was officially dedicated in December 2024, although it was created in the 1980s. It is 2.6 square feet and features a seat, stepping stone, and grass. Now the Guinness World Records has given it official status.
This comes as a hit to Portland, Oregon, residents whose own Mill Ends Park, measuring 3.1 square feet, has held the record since 1971. Mill Ends Park, reportedly the home of leprechauns, dates back to the 1950s and is situated on a traffic island.
