Digital tipping a boon for buskers
The cashless society has been hitting street artists and musicians (buskers) hard these days, but the QR code has come to the rescue.
When people had cash, a guitar player could make up to $50 per weekday or $150 on weekends — just enough to squeak by. But the busking trade has been hit hard by the cashless society.
Now the street beat is back with QR codes — free to make and easy for audiences to use to send a buck or two.
There are even entire websites devoted to making busking profitable again.
Digital tipping sites say that the average QR tip is huge compared to the change or occasional bills that people find in their pockets. People who enjoy the entertainment are willing to pay more than just the quarters in their pockets.
