A new study published in the journal Neurology found that people who regularly use over-the-counter laxatives may increase their dementia risk by 50 percent or more. Researchers found that risk rose among study participants who used two or more types of laxatives. The use of osmotic laxatives, which attract water and keep it in the colon, was associated with even higher risk.
