Philips Respironics has announced that it will halt sales of all breathing machines in the U.S. as part of a settlement with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. According to the New York Times, the company previously recalled millions of ventilators and CPAP machines after reports that the devices blew pieces of foam and toxic gas into users' airways. Sales may not resume for years, but Philips has said that it will continue to service existing devices.
