Must-miss tourist traps for your road trip

The summer road trip is truly one of the most noble American traditions, and just about everyone has been on one.

Our country is jammed full of great things to see from coast to coast, but for every great treasure like the Grand Canyon or Yellowstone, there are plenty of tourist traps that won't leave you marveling at nature's beauty or our nation's history. Here are a few things to definitely plan not to see on your summer road trip — unless you're into this kind of stuff, that is.

* McDonald's where Ronald Reagan ate (Northport, Alabama). The Gipper stopped by this site for a Big Mac in 1984 during his reelection campaign. The only thing you'll see is a plaque that reads "President Reagan ate here."

* Skunk Ape Research Center (Ochopee, Florida). It's not really a research center, just a gift shop and a tiny museum dedicated to a mythological creature that you've probably never heard of.

* World's largest ball of paint (Alexandria, Indiana). This ball of paint contains more than 23,000 layers and weighs more than two tons. Call to make an appointment to see it. Or don't.

* Carhenge (Alliance, Nebraska). It looks like Stonehenge, if Stonehenge were made of a bunch of junky cars painted gray.

* World's largest chest of drawers (High Point, North Carolina). It looks much like your dresser at home, but 80 feet tall.
