Most expensive cities
Kiplinger.com recently calculated the most expensive places to live in the U.S., where housing is sky high and so is everything else. Here were their top five:
1 Manhattan, New York. Cost of living is 132% above U.S. average. Even yoga classes are 38.8% more expensive than the national average.
2 Honolulu, Hawaii. Rated as 82.1% above average cost. Utilities cost 94.4% more than on the mainland.
3 San Jose, California. Cost of living is 81.1% above average. Housing is 232% higher than the national average with the highest taxes in the nation.
4 Orange County, California. Nearly 62% higher cost than the average. Housing is 173.3% higher.
5 San Francisco, California. Cost of living is 60.1% higher than average. Average apartment rent is $3,739 a month.
