Limited mobility? Here are some vacation ideas

If you can't walk a mile, you might think that travel is difficult or impossible. But, there are trips worth taking and they are ready for you!

For a dazzle, try San Antonio, Texas. The colorful, magical Riverwalk is 75 percent wheelchair accessible with short walks and boat tours. A wide variety of Tex-Mex cuisine is available along the Riverwalk, along with mariachi music and other entertainment. Check out the Marriott Rivercenter for accessible lodging. Make sure you don't schedule a spring trip during Fiesta San Antonio, when the city is packed and navigation will be more difficult.

For a beach experience, try all-inclusive resorts in Orlando, FL. Resorts like The Westin Playa Conchal or Marriott's Grand Vista have accessible pools and are close to theme parks. And, yes, you can visit Disney World, where you can rent a scooter, for example. June is a good month for a visit before the higher crowds of deep summer.

Or how about notable scenic locations, like Niagara Falls State Park, which is highly accessible. In fact, it has three wheelchair-friendly trails within a block's distance from parking. The Maid of the Mist Boat Tour offers views of the falls without walking.

For international travel, try Singapore where the streets are safe, smooth, and flat and virtually everything is wheelchair accessible, including gardens and museums.

Before you go, arrange a wheelchair in advance at the airport, where you'll find the longest distances!
