How to choose a dog

How to choose a dog

– Try an older dog. You will not only save a life, but you will get a loving, grateful companion without high-energy puppy behaviors.

– Size counts. Vets used to say you should never get a dog you can't lift onto an exam table. Still, if you have a large secure yard, a larger dog could offer some home security. But make sure you have the space to accommodate a larger dog. If not, go small. Avoid small dogs that are highly active, like Jack Russell Terriers.

– Consider grooming. Some might really enjoy fussing over their pet's coat and taking the little fella to the groomer. But it's not for everyone. Short haired dogs are lots of fun and less trouble.

– Consider the dog's future. If you are going to get a dog, have some sort of

plan in place for the dog's future. If you become disabled, what will happen to the dog?
