Chinese surgeons perform pig-to-human liver transplant

Chinese surgeons successfully transplanted a section of liver from a genetically modified pig into a human cancer patient in a groundbreaking procedure at Xi'an's Air Force Medical University. According to the New York Times, the porcine liver functioned without rejection and the patient's own liver began to regenerate. The porcine section was removed 38 days later and the patient, who suffered from advanced cancer, died about five months later.
