New research aims to develop a vaccine that would prevent heroin users from getting a high from the drug. The research is being conducted by several medical research institutions including The Skaggs Institute for Chemical Biology. The vaccine, being tested on monkeys and mice, uses the immune system to reduce heroin potency, according to the Journal of the American Chemical Society. The vaccine neutralizes heroin highs for up to eight months. Human trials are next.
