In 2016, Americans celebrate the Fourth on a Monday, which means the long holiday weekend starts after work on Friday and ends early Tuesday morning. More fun with family and friends. More food, drinks and fireworks. More traffic on highways. And far more danger due to increased alcohol consumption.
National Safety Council (NSC) studies show a 3 percent increase in highway fatalities during the Fourth weekend. One person is killed every half-hour due to drunk driving. Every other minute, a person is severely injured in an alcohol-related crash.
To stop this upward trend, law enforcement nationwide is increasing DUI arrests. Their campaign motto is Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.
The average DUI arrest costs $10,000, including car towing and repairs, attorney fees, fines, and court costs. And the costs don't end there. Drunk drivers face jail time, suspension of their driver license, higher insurance rates, lost time at work, public embarrassment, loss of dignity, pride, respect from children and more.
Drive sober this Fourth of July (and preserve your liberty!)
