A common bacteria associated with gum disease may cause DNA damage and speed breast tumor growth, according to a new study from the Johns Hopkins Cancer Center. Researchers used human breast cancer cells in mouse models, and observed significantly increased tumor growth and spread after introducing the bacteria into the bloodstream. The researchers say more research is needed to observe whether the same effect occurs in humans.
