Looking to travel in the spring but hoping to avoid the chaos of spring break? Don't worry — there are plenty of amazing places to visit that won't be overrun with rowdy college students.
Even better, when spring arrives in March there are still a ton of opportunities to find offseason prices in places that are still fun and scenic.
Consider this brief list, and then have fun researching your own spring destinations.
Jackson Hole, Wyoming: Neighbor to Grand Teton National Park and home to epic skiing, Jackson Hole is a surprisingly engaging place to visit even when the snow begins to melt (although you can still do plenty of spring skiing in March). U.S. News & World Report recently ranked it No. 2 in Best Small Towns to visit in the U.S.
London: Speaking of U.S. News Travel Report, that publication ranked London as the top spot to visit in March. Lower rainfall and the emergence of milder temperatures — average high temps are about 50 degrees — make it convenient to walk around, while the full-blown tourist season hasn't yet kicked in.
Australia: Craving some beach time and have the means to travel a bit farther? Consider Australia, where March is actually the end of summer and beginning of autumn.
Arizona: The days are warm enough that you won't yet have to haul out the phrase "But it's a dry heat," though nights can cool down considerably. You can also catch some spring training baseball in March.
Austin, Texas: Business Insider ranked the state's capital as one of the best places to visit in March for its balmy weather and cheap flights. There are also two popular events: the Star of Texas Fair & Rodeo, and the South by Southwest music and media festivals.
