It’s not a safety feature: Why don’t the back windows go down?

You have noticed, of course, that the back windows on most cars don't go down all the way and you probably thought that was so kids and pets couldn't jump out the window.

Nope.

According to Gear Patrol, it is really about car architecture. There is no place for the glass in the car to go when the window rolls down. The lower edge of the rear door of most cars curves upwards along the back axle wheel well. There just isn't enough vertical space in the door for the entire window to fit.
