A surprise of flowers, candy or a card, might be just the ticket for your love on Valentine's Day, and that's the way millions of people celebrate the day for lovers.
The key to a great Valentine's gift is that it conveys the giver's love and appreciation for the recipient. You can find all sorts of designs and card projects online to decorate and create a personalized card. But, beware: It's easy to get so carried away with the art project that the card becomes more about our own art skills than it is about the recipient. On the other hand, something too plain and simple might seem insincere.
If you are going to create your own card, consider putting a good photo of you and your love on the card, especially one that evokes memories or times spent together. Choose a photo from a shared vacation, or an old photo to spark memories. You could find a photo that neither of you have seen for a while to make a special surprise.
For a playful card, try to create a rebus. Rebus valentines have a verse with small pictures replacing some of the words. A picture or drawing of an eye, for example, could be used for the word "I" and a heart can be used for the word "love."
If you like to write, try to create a verse in acrostic using the name of your beloved. The first letter of each line, in large type, uses one letter of the name of the recipient. For the name Mary, for example, one could write:
May each day bring my
Adoring thoughts closer to you.
Remember, you are the one I love,
You are the one for me, forever.
If none of those ideas work, you can always buy a card and write your own note. Tell how your love enhances your life and how much he or she means to you. A good message is a keepsake to be cherished.
