Dating apps are ubiquitous these days and its certainly possible to find friends with them, but wouldn't it be nice to have an app that ditched the romance altogether and just helped you find new friends? The European app Les Amis — that's French for friends — aims to do just that, and it's finally rolling out in the U.S.
According to TechCrunch, the app caters primarily to women and uses AI to pair users with similar interests, even allowing them to sign up for local events within the app where they might date their new friends in person. And it works pretty much just like a dating app, with user profiles that include spaces for photos, biographies, and a list of your interests. And every two weeks, the AI digital assistant, named Amis, guides users through matching rounds to connect them with brand new potential friends.
Another nice touch: The matchups always happen on Mondays, which gives you plenty of time to make plans with your friend.
But online dating usually isn't free, and online friendship matching isn't either. Fees vary by city, but users in New York must pay $70 per month to (maybe) meet the friend of their dreams.
