There are many techniques for correcting a child's common error of reversing the letter d.
One of the easiest ways is to have the child write out the lowercase alphabet from A to D.
After the child writes the letter C point out that all he has to do is to draw a stem to cover the open c and he has a d.
Draw the lowercase c first. Then the stem.
