U.S. seafood workers involved in processing were twice as likely to contract COVID-19 as workers in other food industries during 2020 and 2021, a study says. Seafood processors work close together for hours each day, making social distancing difficult. Crews on fishing vessels faced the same challenges.
Researchers from the University of New Hampshire reviewed written materials to trace infections throughout the industry.
