Scanners gauge body changes

For decades health-conscious individuals have had only the basic bathroom scale to help them navigate their journey towards weight loss and overall fitness. According to Engadget, a new device called the ShapeScale is hoping to use its unique 3D scanning technology to help provide users with more useful information about their bodies.

While the user stands still, the device's camera rotates around the person and uses the photos to create a 3D model of the individual. Assuming that they are wearing tight clothes, the model will be able to show visible changes in actual body part size from day-to-day. This data can help show positive or negative body changes that wouldn't necessarily be reflected by weight change alone.
