Eid al-Adha is June 6

Eid-al-Adha, the Islamic Festival of Sacrifice, begins on the evening of Friday, June 6, with celebrations continuing until June 9. According to the lunar Islamic calendar, it begins on the 10th day of the 12th and final month of the year.

One of the two most important holidays in the Islamic world, Eid al-Adha marks the day when God commanded Abraham (Ibrahim) in a dream to sacrifice his son Ishmail and demonstrate his obedience. Though the devil tried to tempt Abraham to disobey God's command, Abraham remained faithful. God stopped the sacrifice and gifted Abraham with a lamb to slaughter instead. Today, Muslims in some communities butcher a sheep or a goat as part of their celebration and share the meat with loved ones and those in need.

Eid al-Adha also marks the final day of the Hajj, the annual pilgrimage of the faithful to the Masjid al-Haram, the most important mosque and holiest place for all Muslims. At the center of the Masjid stands the Kaaba, an ancient stone shrine built by Abraham and Ishmail themselves.

The traditional way to greet someone on Eid al-Adha or the other major holiday of Eid al-Fitr is, Eid Mubarak.,
