Boxing Day: time to give gifts, go to the races
Boxing Day is celebrated in Canada and Britain. It falls on December 26, which is also St. Stephens Day.
On Boxing Day, it is customary to give gifts to those who perform services without individual payment during the year. Tradesmen may receive Christmas boxes or gifts in return for good service in the past year. It is also a day to give to the needy.
Because St. Stephen is the patron saint of horses, Boxing Day has become a day for horse racing and hunting.
