Before dinner: the aperitif

A dry drink of modest size stimulates the appetite and is a perfect introduction to a dinner party.

The key is serving a drink that is not very sweet and somewhat low in alcohol.

To that end, a small dry sherry will do, or martinis poured in very small quantities.

A dry sparkling wine can serve as a pre-dinner aperitif. Add a red ribbon to the flute for a dash of Christmas color.
