Does Medicare pay for a colonoscopy?
Yes. Medicare covers a colonoscopy every 120 months (10 years) and once every 24 months if you are at risk of developing of colon cancer. A colonoscopy is a preventative service covered by Part B. Medicare covers all costs, including anesthesia. If the doctor removes a polyp during the colonoscopy, the procedure is considered diagnostic. You may be responsible for 20 percent of the Medicare-approved amount for the doctor and facility. With a Medicare Advantage plan, the costs may be different.
