When San Francisco-based Anthropic introduced its advanced AI chatbot, it named the bot after an AI researcher named Claude.
Little did they think of it then, but living just around the corner was another Claude.
Claude the albino alligator, 30, lives at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco, where he entertains fans, lunches in a persnickety fashion, and lounges on his rock.
Anthropic fell in love. Now Claude the gator is live-streamed around the company 24-7. White alligator stuffies sell big in the company gift shop and everyone uses alligator emojis.
The Wall Street Journal asked the chatbot Claude about the situation: "It is amusing that there's a famous white alligator and an AI both named Claude out there in the world," Claude said. "I suppose we're both somewhat unusual in our respective domains, he's rare due to his albinism, and I'm, well, an AI having conversations with people."
