A great snack for the birds

One nutritious snack for wild birds may surprise you: cooked potato.

Peeled, cooked, plain potato may be added to feeders in the summer, according to Homes and Gardens, but bird lovers must be sure the potatoes are peeled and cooked thoroughly. Raw potatoes contain solanine, a toxin that is harmful to birds and can cause stomach and brain issues, and even death. Add no salt or butter to the cooked potato, which should be mashed or finely chopped.
