According to research reported by ScienceDaily in May 2026, scientists in Germany identified individuals with near-perfect accuracy using nothing but ordinary Wi-Fi. As the radio waves bounce around a space, a person's body blocks and reflects them in a slightly unique way, an invisible signature the system learned to read. No camera, microphone, or wearable was involved.
The researchers described the work as a glimpse of where wireless sensing is heading, not a finished product, and such systems remain experimental.
Even so, it is a reminder of how much quiet information drifts through our homes and offices — and a hint that "who is here" may someday be a question the network can answer on its own.
