Chainsaws are worthless if they are not sharpened but you don't have to throw away the chain.
It's less expensive to sharpen chains and with kits you don't have to do it by hand.
According to chainsaw expert Bob Crewe of Power Equipment Direct, a PowerSharp Sharpening Kit ($37 to $57) will help you do it without a lot of trouble. Crewe says there's no better option. These kits feature a sharpener, a bar, and a chain that work together as a kit.
It comes in different sizes, so be sure check compatibility with your chainsaw.
Grinder Sharpeners ($299 and up)give a professional sharpening. You can use a heavy-duty grinder if you are a professional or have several big trees to cut down on your property and then have to cut them up.
They feature a clamp that holds the chain while a grinding wheel is lowered down to smooth the teeth to a razor-sharp finish.
