We pause during this era of dramatic political pronouncements to bring you some real news: There is a jar of pickles on the median of a busy highway exit in a St. Louis suburb of Des Peres.
It had been there since at least 2012 until, this past April, all the pickles disappeared. The next day there were two jars of pickles. Occasionally, a jar of mustard joins the group.
The Des Peres pickle jar is famous. It has a Wikipedia entry, a video on TikTok, and a Facebook page, "Team Pickle," where a pickle friend recently mused: "So many ask WHERE is the pickle jar…we should all be asking WHY is the pickle jar." Indeed.
