Freeze it. Fill a metal pan with ice cubes and press it on the wax until it freezes solid. Shatter the frozen wax with a small hammer, then vacuum it up. Press pieces of tape into the carpet to pick up small pieces that remain.
For leftovers, dab with dry cleaning solvent from the grocery store. Let it dry and use a damp cloth to lift it up.
