Peas, lentils, lima beans and other proteins seem to be important in protecting your cognitive health.
A study published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition followed more than 77,000 people for 20 years. The study found an association between protein intake and the risk of developing cognitive decline. Researchers found that adding an extra three servings a week of plant proteins, rather than carbohydrates (found in bread and pasta, for example), was associated with a 28 percent lower risk of cognitive decline. Animal proteins instead of carbs also helped lower risk by 11 percent.
