Motivation and longevity

A reader asked Sue Shellenbarger, The Wall Street Journal's Work & Family advisor, what effect moving from a small town to a big city for a career could have on how long they would live. She replied that being motivated to satisfy career ambitions can help people stay healthy and possibly live longer

Howard S. Friedman, co-author of The Longevity Project, based on an 80-year study, said having meaningful work, or volunteer work, also helps people stay well. Friedman says friendships with conscientious, productive people also aid longevity.
