Filene's: Edward Albert Filene, born September 3, 1860, was an American merchant and philanthropist. He made the family store into a retail powerhouse, innovating the famed Filene's Bargain Basement where merchandise was automatically discounted with time. His employees credit union was the catalyst for the US credit union movement in 1921.
