German court deals another copyright blow to OpenAI

A Munich court has ruled that OpenAI violated German copyright laws when it used song lyrics to train ChatGPT without permission. According to WebProNews, the court rejected OpenAI's assertion that its usage of copyrighted material constituted fair use and ordered the AI firm to pay undisclosed damages to the music rights organization GEMA. Experts suggest that the verdict may further strengthen the position of copyright holders pursuing similar lawsuits in multiple countries.
