Visiting casinos is a favorite form of entertainment for retirees. It can be an adventure, but it can also be dangerous if you allow yourself to get caught up in a game.
Here's some good advice from gambling instructor Henry Tamburin.
* Develop a strategy before entering a casino. Never go in and play randomly.
* Don't drink while playing. Alcohol undermines your concentration and judgment.
* Slowly increase bets when you are winning. Take advantage of any streak.
* Never quit during a streak, but quit as soon as your luck turns bad.
* Never bet more when you are losing.
The advice works particularly well for card games and roulette. But you have to be very careful and have limits, even if you're just playing the nickel slots.
