Fashion trends for 2020 are out of this world

Fashion will be inspired by space in 2020 and beyond, predicts Lyst.com.

That's not entirely unreasonable since governments and entrepreneurs are set on shooting people to the moon. There are also programs in the works to further investigate Mars, and one attempt will focus on finding evidence of previous bacterial life.

Lyst expects to see space suit outerwear and 'holographic' fabrics. No word yet on what exactly those fabrics are.

Japan will be big this year with Tokyo set to host the 2020 Olympics. All things Japanese are expected to show up in fashion. Among those things, a nod to renown Japanese youth and fashion district Harajuku, where street clothes combine blasts of color with storytelling. Wild patterns and fabrics blend with period fantasies. You'll find 50s rock culture, cat obsessions, English gothic, and more. Lyst expects this to leak into high fashion.

Big handbags will be back. Handbag sizes have shrunk 40 percent since 2018, but Lyst thinks this trend will reverse with big, stylized bags in soft leather styles.
