August is (cancelled) State Fair Month

August has traditionally been the beginning of a brisk succession of state fairs.

This year it is a succession of cancelled state fairs. All of the cancellations were due to the Covid crisis.

In June, only a handful of planned state fairs declared on their websites that they were affirmatively open. Some fair planners stated on their websites that they were still planning, but the actual status of the fair was unclear.

About four state fairs scheduled in August are definitely open: Missouri, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Indiana.

The status of some, such as the New York State Fair, was unclear.
